Air Liquide advances in its commitment to sustainability by developing renewable energy sources

  • Sustainability

Air Liquide Mexico has completed an ambitious project to advance its commitment to the decarbonization of the industry and its own operations by installing 500 solar panels to supply the operations of its Regional Packaged Gas Operations Center located in Apodaca, Nuevo León. ; thus reinforcing its commitment to the development of renewable energy sources.

With an investment of more than $215,000 USD, the project to install 1,089 m2 of solar panels began in 2021 and was recently completed in May. It has the capacity to generate 222.5 kWp, enough energy to cover around 50% of the total consumption of the Regional Bottled Gas Operations Center located in Apodaca, Nuevo León; which is made up of a helium transfer plant, a high pressure filling plant and an acetylene plant. This ambitious project will generate 320 MWh per year, avoiding the emission of more than 158 tons of CO2 per year, thus reducing the greenhouse effect of the multiple Air Liquide operations centers.

This project adds to the Air Liquide Group's growing commitment to decarbonising the environment and aligns with our commitment to reduce CO2 emissions by 33% by 2035 and achieve carbon neutrality by 2050.

"We seek to reduce the environmental impact of our industrial activities and promote the use of renewable energies, minimizing CO2 emissions and promoting the energy transition based on the development of sustainable energies; in addition to contributing to our community in full compliance with the ESG sustainability objectives of the Air Liquide Group", said Raphael de Montfort, General Director in Mexico.
